Stuart Thomson, head of public affairs at law firm Bircham Dyson Bell, said firms should not abandon the government and warned against alienating key decision makers.

“The idea that you exclude someone because they are irrelevant or wrong is just not the right approach,” he said. “If you start excluding people in that way they take hump, which is no way to deal with policy officials let along politicians.”
