Some of the UK’s top PR and public affairs experts have shared their thoughts on today’s news that Portland founder Tim Allan has been brought in to lead Downing Street’s comms operation.
“This is a clear sign that something needs to change. Alongside the changes on policy and delivery, the appointment of a comms expert who understands politics and has direct experience of working in No. 10, is a clear recognition by the PM that he is losing ground. Without such a radical reset, he could easily find himself fighting the next election without anyone knowing or understanding what he has done during his time in Downing Street. Even the most loyal Labour supporters now take the spectre of an insurgent Farage-led Reform Party seriously. This reset will make or break this Labour Government and Starmer as Prime Minister.”
